Self-Reliance Starts Here
At Knux Garage, we believe the best way to save money and ensure your vehicle’s reliability is to understand the machine you're driving. Our workshops aren't lectures—they are hands-on, small-group sessions designed to take the intimidation out of the engine bay.
We provide the professional-grade shop environment, the specialized tools, and the technical guidance. You provide the vehicle and the labor. Whether you’re looking to master your first oil change or tackle a full brake service, our Workshops are here for you. We provide you with the knowledge, and ensure you perform the work safely, correctly, and with total confidence.

The Foundation of Vehicle Longevity
Stop guessing what’s happening under the caps. This hands-on workshop covers the "Lifeblood" of your vehicle—the essential fluids and filtration systems that keep your engine running cool and clean. We move beyond the dipstick to show you how to accurately inspect, test, and service the systems that dealerships often overcharge for.
-
Engine Oil & Filtration: A full, professional-grade oil and filter change on your vehicle.
System Checks: How to safely inspect and top off Coolant, Brake Fluid, and Wiper Fluid.
Air Intake: Inspection and replacement of the Engine Air Filter to ensure maximum efficiency.
Preventative Diagnostics: Learning to "read" fluid color and levels to spot potential issues before they become failures
-
Not sure which oil or filter your car needs? Don’t sweat it. When you register, simply select the "Knux Provided" option. We will source high-quality, vehicle-specific oil and filters so they are sitting at your bay when you arrive.
Option A: Knux Provides (Oil & Filter) — +$60
Option B: I’ll Bring My Own — $0

Learn to identify, inspect, and service the fluids that keep your engine, transmission, and braking systems operational. We don’t just show you how; we get you under the hood and on the lift to perform the work yourself in a professional shop environment.
Key Technical Skills:
Oil & Filter Service: Proper drainage, filter removal, and selection.
Fluid Identification: Identifying where on your vehicle these fluids are and: Oil, Coolant, Brake, Transmission, Power Steering, and Washer fluids.

Waste Management: Proper disposal and shop safety protocols.
ROADSIDE RESILIENCE
Field Repair for the Modern Driver
When a dash light comes on or a tire goes flat, have no fear. This workshop is built on the principle of self-reliance. We teach you how to read your vehicle’s distress signals and perform the critical tasks that turn a potential breakdown into a minor detour. It’s about having the “Can Do” mindset: stay calm, diagnose the problem, and execute the fix.
-
Tire Changes: Proper jacking points, lug nut patterns, and spare tire safety on your specific chassis.
Electrical Recovery: How to jump-start safely (without frying your car's computer) and testing battery/alternator health.
The "Go/No-Go" Inspection: Identifying critical wear in serpentine belts and cooling hoses before they fail.
Warning Light Diagnostics: Using a basic OBD2 scanner to retrieve fault codes and understand next steps.
-
This is a purely hands-on skill session. You don't need to bring a thing except your vehicle and your curiosity. We provide the scanners, the jumpers, and the heavy-duty jacks. You leave with the confidence that you handle the next crisis.
Don’t let a flat tire or a dead battery turn into a crisis. Roadside Resilience is a tactical "survival" course for the modern driver. Designed for new drivers, commuters, and anyone looking to stop paying the "convenience fine," this workshop provides the grit and guidance needed to handle common roadside emergencies with confidence.
We move beyond the owner's manual to teach real-world techniques for staying safe and mobile on the Rochester roads. By the end of this session, the "mystery" of the shoulder-side repair is gone.
Key Technical Skills:
The Safe Jack-Up: Using ramps, automotive jacks, and portable jack without slippage.
Tire Mastery: Proper lug nut torque, spare tire deployment, and pressure management.
Jump Start Protocols: How to jump a battery safely without damaging modern vehicle electronics.
Emergency Diagnostics: Identifying "Stop Immediately" vs. "Drive to Shop" warning signs.
Stopping Power & Next-Level Brakes will be available for purchase in June. Stay Tuned!

Get to Know Your Braking System
Your brakes are the most important safety feature on your vehicle, yet they are often the most misunderstood and overpriced services at the dealership. This workshop strips away the mystery of the braking system. We teach you how to perform a professional-grade brake service on your own vehicle, ensuring every bolt is torqued to spec and every component is functioning perfectly.
-
System Inspection: How to measure pad thickness and rotor wear to know exactly when service is actually required.
Pad & Rotor Replacement: The hands-on process of removing old hardware, cleaning hubs, and installing new components.
Caliper Service: Proper lubrication of slide pins and inspection of piston boots to prevent future seizing.
Bedding-In Procedure: How to properly "mate" your new pads to the rotors for maximum stopping performance and longevity.
-
Because brake parts are vehicle-specific and vary in price, we offer three pathways to ensure you have exactly what you need at your bay:
THE FULL SERVICE: We research and source the pads and rotors for your specific VIN. We will send you a custom parts invoice; once paid, your parts will be waiting at your bay. —$10 + parts cost
THE GUIDED PURCHASE: We provide a professional parts list based on your vehicle's requirements. You use that list to purchase the brand you prefer and bring them with you to class. —$10
THE INDEPENDENT: You source and bring your own pads and rotors. —$0
THE 7-DAY RULE: To ensure we have time for research and sourcing, all parts selections and vehicle information must be finalized at least 7 days prior to your class date.

Mastering the Hydraulic Braking System
Once you’ve mastered pads and rotors, it’s time to go deeper into the system that actually moves them. This workshop focuses on the "Liquid Muscle" of your car: the hydraulic lines, the calipers, and the fluid itself. We move past simple maintenance and into component replacement and system restoration. If your brake pedal feels "spongy" or your calipers are sticking, this is the class that fixes the root cause
-
Caliper Replacement: How to properly disconnect, swap, and torque new calipers without damaging the hydraulic seals.
Line & Hose Inspection: Identifying "swollen" rubber hoses and rusted hard lines before they lead to a total pressure failure.
The Full System Flush: Purging old, moisture-contaminated fluid and replacing it with fresh, high-boiling-point fluid.
Precision Bleeding: Mastering the "Two-Person" and "Pressure-Bleeder" methods to ensure every micro-bubble of air is out of your lines.
Master Cylinder Diagnostics: Learning how to spot internal seal failure versus a simple external leak.
-
These next-level components (calipers / hoses / fittings) are highly specific and often require "Core Charges" (returning the old part for a refund), our parts options are strictly managed:
THE FULL CONCIERGE: We source the correct calipers and hoses for your VIN. We handle the "Core Return" process for you—you just pay the invoice and show up. —$10 + parts
THE GUIDED PURCHASE: We provide the exact part numbers and fluid specifications. You buy them and bring them to class. Note: You will be responsible for returning your own "Core" parts to the store for your refund. —$10
THE INDEPENDENT: You source and bring your own calipers, hoses, and fluid.
THE 7-DAY RULE: Because calipers often have longer lead times for shipping, all parts selections for this workshop must be finalized 10 days prior to class to ensure they arrive at the shop on time.
